Some answers to questions that often come up...
what is counselling?
The process of exploring thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential and non judgemental environment.
how often should i have counselling?
this is up to you. many clients start with weekly sessions and then lessen them as they progress.
how long is a session?
sessions last for 50minutes.
what qualifications do counsellors have?
in the UK there is no law specifying qualifications. however, it is considered safe and best practice for counsellors to have undertaken some form of related study. I HAVE STUDIED A three year bsc in psychology, counselling and psychotherapy. additionally the bacp requires that every year i undertake a minimum amount of continued professional develiopment.
what happens in the first session?
in our first session we will complete our contracting that will have been sent via email. then we will begin wherever you decide. you are the lead in sessions and we will navigate whatever comes up together.
how many session will i need?
this is personal to each client. there is no limit on how many sessions we can have. we will be guided by you, how you feel and what you want.
i am 16yrs old, will you tell my parents what we talk about?
no. at 16 you are considered to have capacity to make your own decisions. in our first session we will discuss what counselling involves and how confidentiality works.
cost is a barrier to access for me
i believe that believe should be able to access counselling when they need and want it. so i offer limited spaces for reduced cost counselling. this is on a first come basis and cost is agreed between us, dependng upon your circumstances.
i don't want to continue counselling, can i leave?
yes! you can stop counselling whenever you want to. this is your journey and you are in control. whether that is during a session, or before the next. i just ask that you give me 24hrs notice prior to not attending a session so that you are not charged.
